A Little History

Established in 2008, Cafe Monte has been offering breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. Our goal has always been to be your neighborhood “Escape from the Everyday.”   With our value-driven menu, farm-to-table specialties and gourmet approach, we make quality French food accessible to all.   Provincial-style cuisine and products of terroir offer an image of comfort, nourishing both the body and spirit.  We use only the highest quality ingredients and strive to enhance the natural flavors of fresh seasonal and locally sourced products.

When you dine with us, our professional wait staff will ensure your experience is world class. With a thorough knowledge of our menu and ingredients, they can help you choose the perfect item and pair it with an appropriate wine or beverage.

If you don’t have time for a sit-down meal you can take advantage of our quick counter service for quality food to go.

Monte Smith

Monte Smith, owner of Café Monte, has a resume that is as adventurous and flavorful as the delicious foods on his menu. Monte was born in Texas but was raised in La Paz, Bolivia, where his parents were missionaries. As a child, his unusual experiences included traveling deep into the jungle for medical missions, learning about life on the Alti Plano and and eating fresh water salmon from Lake Titicaca. He returned to the US to attend college but his passion for culture and foods led him to begin his career in hospitality in Lima, Peru at the five star Swiss hotel, the famous Hotel Crillon. He traveled extensively throughout South America, where he hiked the Inca Trail, climbed Machu Pichu and walked the Atacama Desert of Chile.

After receiving his Masters in International Marketing Management from The American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird), Monte worked for Palm to build and develop high-end restaurants in Mexico. In 2008, Monte decided to use his 30 plus years of multi-faceted hospitality experience to open a world-class restaurant in Charlotte.  His passion for classic culinary techniques called into play French methods and style.  The result was Café Monte Bakery and Bistro – where all of Monte’s education, experiences and skills come together for an unparalleled dining experience.

BASTILLE DAY SATURDAY JULY 14

CELEBRATE BASTILLE DAY – At Cafe Monte we will not be bringing out the Guillotine but rather, pulling out the stops. Live Music Lunch and Dinner with Ethan on Piano, Bob on Accordian and Bill on Trumpet.

Saturday Brunch will feature an Organic Produce Stand, Live Music and Raffle Prizes. Also featured Chef Ben’s local and seasonal specials.

Saturday Evening enjoy candlelight, live music and Fresh Dayboat NC Snapper, Jumbo Scallops and other locally inspired dishes. A Bastille Day Raffle will also be held throughout dinner Saturday night.
